Work
2008-: I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College's new Computational Creativity Group (London) where I investigate AI methods for games and visual art. This looks like being an interesting career change.
2003-2008: SWiSHzone.com (Sydney) developing Flash authoring tools. Swish are an exceptional company and it was good to be part of a small, talented team for a change.
1999-2003: Returned to CISRA (Canon Research, Sydney) for a couple of years. Great place!
1998-1999: Spent a year at Microsoft (Seattle) working on the GDI+ font engine. Although it was an educational experience I can't really say that I learnt much or had a good year.
1997-1998: CISRA (Sydney) working on automatic font decoration. CISRA had just implemented the new Glorious Fonts format and gave me free reign to develop artistic styles that might tempt customers to use more ink (examples). Jobs like this don't turn up every day.
Please see my publications page for a summary of my research interests.

We have two cats, Merlin and Mishka. Funny little things, but we have to treat them with respect as they're both shareholders in Cyberite Pty Ltd. [Sadly Merlin passed away in June 2005].

local possum enjoying the cat bites. Helen named this fellow Hannibal
due to his habit of nibbling on fingers that hold out apple cores.

Well, I gave it a go, but after six months of strenuous growth decided that some things are just better left unconquered. Key factors in this decision included my work mates threatening to take snaphsots on their mobile phones to send in to ASIO (beard-growing was a threat to national security at the time) and the fact that I could never quite chew it to an even length; the bits at the back were getting to be real throat ticklers as well as food repositories.
