The Royal Holloway Postcolonial Research Group was founded in 2005 to facilitate staff and postgraduate research on a wide range of topics relating to historical, political, cultural and geographical aspects of imperialism – past and present. Interdisciplinary in spirit, the Group aims to support individual and collaborative projects, to advance current research in postcolonial studies in the United Kingdom and abroad, and to engage vigorously with debates of interest to the international scholarly community.
Members of the Group are drawn from a variety of departments across the university:
- Classics
- Drama
- English
- Geography
- History
- Media Arts
- Music
- Politics and International Relations
The Group runs a regular seminar programme and holds occasional conferences and symposia. It also hosts visiting experts from the United Kingdom and abroad in an effort to actively maintain national and international links with scholars working in the broad field of postcolonial studies.
Our 2009–10 programme will feature seminars and workshops on Subaltern Studies, hosted jointly with the Research Network South Asia, in the autumn term. The focus theme for spring term is Travel Cultures in the Victorian Era, while the summer term’s focus will be announced soon. Further details are posted on the events page.
